CDI – The Challenge

What is the CDI Challenge?

To increase the accessibility of information for patients and clinicians regarding Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) and the use of antibiotics.

CDI Cards are being distributed as part of a regional pilot to improve prescribing of
antibiotics. They are available free to any patient who has had a C difficile Infection who wishes to have one. The card makes it easier for healthcare professionals to identify patients who have had a C difficile infection (CDI).

Purpose of this card

  • Patients carrying this card have been identified as having had a C difficile infection (CDI) or being at risk of this condition.
  • By showing you this card patients can quickly alert Healthcare Professionals to prescribe the correct antibiotics.
     

Benefits for clinicians
Clinicians will benefit from knowing patients have had a CDI:

  • It can help improve patient outcomes
  • It can help reduce the prescribing budget
  • It can reduce episodes of illness and interventions by GP practice staff
  • It can increase knowledge by healthcare providers on up to date treatment guidelines
