Alcohol: the regional picture
- Eight out of the top 10 local authority areas with highest rates of harmful drinking levels in people aged 16 or over are in the North West.
- Nine out of the top 20 PCTs with the highest rates of alcohol-related hospital admissions are in the North West.
- There is an increasing trend of 11% per year in the rate of alcohol-related hospital admissions per 100,000 population in the region.
Regional Alcohol Programme
Aim: that everybody in the North West drinks fewer alcohol units so that they are within the national safe guidelines.
Objectives:
- To change attitudes and behaviour towards alcohol.
- To reduce alcohol-related hospital admissions.
- To reduce alcohol related crime and disorder.
- To reduce the risk of harm to children and young people as a result of theirs’ or others’ drinking.
