The area is one of contrasts. Ellesmere Port and Runcorn are decidedly industrialised with petrochemical production facilities dominating the landscape, whereas only a few miles away Cheshire’s lush farm land makes it one of the UK’s most-sought-after areas in which to live.

The historic city of Chester was settled by the Romans and extensive remains, including an amphitheatre, can be seen within the city walls, most of which are still intact.

The Cheshire Plain is studded by small towns and villages and overlooked by the sandstone ridge on which there are the castles of Beeston and Peckforton and the spectacular Iron Age hill fort at Bickerton Hill.

Dairy production was once at the heart of a thriving agricultural industry, which made Western Cheshire historically famous for the production of Cheshire cheese.

Singer and songwriter, Gary Barlow was born in Frodsham, and actor Daniel Craig was born in Chester, as was poet Anthony Thwaite.

Patient Opinion

We want to hear your story and your ideas to help other patients, and to improve the NHS. Here are some of the things you can do on Patient Opinion:

Patients and carers can find out what other people think of local hospitals, hospices and mental health services

And lots of people share the story of what happened to them or their family when they are ill

Most important of all patients and carers can tell it like it is - patients and carers know what the service Pregnant Woman and child was like and come up with lots of great ideas about how it could be better.

So you can tell people what happened to you, as well as reading what others think.
