Population: 282,000

Sefton has 22 miles of coastline, with boundaries that embrace the Port of Liverpool in the south and the Victorian holiday resort of Southport in the north. It is also an area of contrasts.

One of the area’s most deprived areas is Bootle, where the ship building industry poured money into the economy until its collapse in the 1960s, creating high unemployment. The area now has the container port at Seaforth, which requires much fewer employees.

Southport, has the second longest pier in Britain. Napoleon III lived in exile in the town from 1846 to 1848 before returning to France to become emperor. Among its dunes can be found the UK’s largest colony of natterjack toads. Formby is home to a colony of red squirrels and the world’s first lifeboat station. Crosby’s beaches sport the 100 iron men sculptures put there by artist Antony Gormley.

Patient Opinion

We want to hear your story and your ideas to help other patients, and to improve the NHS. Here are some of the things you can do on Patient Opinion:

Patients and carers can find out what other people think of local hospitals, hospices and mental health services

And lots of people share the story of what happened to them or their family when they are ill

Most important of all patients and carers can tell it like it is - patients and carers know what the service Pregnant Woman and child was like and come up with lots of great ideas about how it could be better.

So you can tell people what happened to you, as well as reading what others think.
