Liverpool lies at the heart of Merseyside and is famous for the Beatles, Liverpool and Everton football clubs, the Grand National, the Philharmonic Orchestra, Brookside, the Mersey ferry and ‘Scousers’ themselves with their cheeky charm.

The port and the shipping industry have for centuries attracted people to the city from overseas. Now its two universities - Liverpool University and John Moores University – bring 40,000 students to Merseyside.

Although largely urban, Liverpool has many beautiful open spaces, from Sefton Park with the beautifully-restored Palm House, to Calderstones Park and the wild garden beneath the Anglican cathedral.

The city is enjoying a resurgence, thanks in part to being crowned European Capital of Culture 2008. Although Liverpool has always been vibrant and proud, it now stands extra tall as millions of people are beginning to realise what the city has to offer in terms of history, the arts, architecture and culture.

Patient Opinion

We want to hear your story and your ideas to help other patients, and to improve the NHS. Here are some of the things you can do on Patient Opinion:

Patients and carers can find out what other people think of local hospitals, hospices and mental health services

And lots of people share the story of what happened to them or their family when they are ill

Most important of all patients and carers can tell it like it is - patients and carers know what the service Pregnant Woman and child was like and come up with lots of great ideas about how it could be better.

So you can tell people what happened to you, as well as reading what others think.
