PCT Information

Population: 182,000

Birth place of the inventor of hip replacements John Charnley, ex-prime minister’s wife Cherie Blair and comedienne Victoria Wood, Bury is a centre of contrast and variety.

The borough is made up of six distinctive towns - Prestwich, Whitefield, Radcliffe, Tottington, Ramsbottom and Bury itself - all of which retain their individuality.

The area was dominated by cotton and woollen mills in the 18th and 19th century. A key figure in the industrial revolution – the inventor of the Flying Shuttle, John Kay was born just north of Bury.

Bury boasts attractions to suit all tastes, from the historic steam locomotives of the East Lancashire Railway that carries visitors along the Irwell Valley, to the 600-year-old Bury Market, offering the chance to buy bargains plus local specialities like the famous Bury Black Pudding.

From Bury, it is only a tram ride to the UK’s largest public art scheme - the Irwell Valley Sculpture trail.

Patient Opinion

We want to hear your story and your ideas to help other patients, and to improve the NHS. Here are some of the things you can do on Patient Opinion:

Patients and carers can find out what other people think of local hospitals, hospices and mental health services

And lots of people share the story of what happened to them or their family when they are ill

Most important of all patients and carers can tell it like it is - patients and carers know what the service Pregnant Woman and child was like and come up with lots of great ideas about how it could be better.

So you can tell people what happened to you, as well as reading what others think.
